East Northamptonshire DC and the Northamptonshire branch of ACRE have designed a scheme aimed at preventing a decline in local shopping by encouraging more people to support their village shop, reports BBC Northampton.

This follows a warning from village shopowners that their livelihoods are under threat.

East Northamptonshire DC chief executive Roger Heath said it is a scheme which should not be undervalued.

He explained: 'They are teaching sessions, with workshops. They are informal. There are a number of councillors there, with an opportunity for an exchange of views.

'There has been national interest shown in this scheme. I understand we have had enquiries about it from Cumbria, Dorset, Devon - from all over the country'.
