There have been further departures at Ealing LBC, after it shed 23 senior jobs earlier this year.

The council has lost education director Caroline Whalley and interim social services director Mike Leadbetter, replacing both with temporary appointments.

Nick Jarmon, a former acting director of education at Hackney LBC, has taken over as interim director of education, while former NHS chief executive Dr Julie Hollyman has taken the social services role.

An Ealing spokesperson said there were no immediate plans to recruit permanent appointments to either position.

The council has already cut two top-tier director posts and 21 service level director jobs in a bid to 'provide more efficient and joined-up services to customers' (LGC, 16 April).
