Staff at East Kilbride Development Corporation have voted to boycott work on the wind-up of the new town, in a dispute over redundancy terms.

More than 90% of Unison members voted last week to refuse to work on disposal of the corporation's assets.

East Kilbride will be the first of the five Scottish new towns to be wound up, on 31 March 1996. Unison says the boycott could spread to other development corporations.

New town staff expected to receive a redundancy package equivalent to a year's salary plus statutory redundancy payments, but the union says these payments are to be cut, following government interference.
