Roadworks at 27 major locations on English motorways and major A-roads will be removed for the Easter weekend, the Highways Agency announced today.

Over the Easter period, the Highways Agency will be completing or removing roadworks from as many of England's motorways and major trunk roads as possible, to make journeys easier for road users, wherever it is safe to do so.

The Highways Agency advises the public to seek information about roadworks on specific routes, before they set out, which should help to ensure that they reach their destination safely, and avoid troublespots.

Minister for roads, Stephen Ladyman, said:

'Drivers will enjoy easier journeys over the holiday weekend as the Highways Agency, once again, lifts as many roadworks as possible on Englands motorways and major roads.'

'Thanks to the Agency's information services, drivers can check on road conditions before they set out, over the phone or online - as well as by listening to radio travel bulletins when on the move. If you know where the hold-ups are, you can choose to take a different route, or allow more time for your journey.'

Roadworks and lane restrictions will be removed between Thursday 13 April and midnight on Easter Monday. Twenty-six roadworks were programmed and completed just ahead of the holidays by the Agency.

For safety reasons, roadworks at forty locations will remain.

As part of the Highways Agency's aim to help drivers plan ahead for their journeys, traffic and travel information will be freely available at new information points at 24 Welcome Break service stations across England, as well as on the Agency's real-time traffic website, Traffic England and internet radio; all fed through in real time from the Agency's high-tech 24-hour National Traffic Control Centre in Birmingham.

Motorists can access this information via:

Highways Agency website Highways Agency voice activated telephone service (24 hours a day - calls charged at local rate) on 08700 660 115 Traffic adviser 24 hours a day at the Highways Agency Information Line (HAIL) on 08457 50 40 30 Traffic and travel news broadcasts on radio and TV

350 electronic roadside message signs located at key junctions on the strategic road network give drivers the opportunity to change route if there is a problem ahead. And 1,400 safety signs are used to manage traffic locally in the event of incidents and emergencies to provide warnings of stationary or slow-moving traffic, protecting those at the back of queues

To avoid heavy traffic or possible bad weather, the Agency encourages drivers to plan their routes and to allow extra time to complete journeys safely.

See below for list for roadworks suspended, completed and those that will remain.

The list does not include any emergency repair work that may be necessary in the event of unplanned incidents.
