The Association of London Authorities has welcomed the government's decision tin include parts of the capital in its list of UK areas which need EC funding.

The association says the decision follows three years of intense lobbying and is a recognition of the damage the recession had brought to London.

ALA chair Toby Harris said: 'The inclusion of substantial areas of London on the regional aid map is a tribute to the efforts of the ALA, working with all London boroughs and the private sector.

'We can now look forward to aid totalling £150 million over the next three years to regenerate deprived areas of the capital, create much needed jobs and revitalise local economies,' added Mr Harris.
