The European Commission is pressing member states to increase measures promoting multi-cultural education as part of a package to reduce racial conflict and violence, The Guardian reports (p4).

Schools with large black and Asian populations may soon be offered grants to help stem the flow of white families to other schools.

The paper reports that the campaign coincides with the cutting of Home Office grants paying for teachers of ethnic minority children and altering the formula by which the DoE takes ethnicity into account when determining local council spending.
