Edinburgh City Council has appointed consultant Interbrand to develop a new image for the Scottish capital.

Its tender advertisement for the£800,000 project drew 70 expressions of interest and 26 bids, which were whittled to a shortlist of six.

Interbrand will carry out market research this summer and plans to have a consistent marketing image available for Edinburgh by next spring.

It said this would help the city to compete for investment and tourism.

Leader Donald Anderson (Lab) said: 'We cannot rest on our laurels. Appointing Interbrand is a significant move toward developing a brand that represents every aspect of this diverse city.'
