Edinburgh councillors have met to consider a secret report into allegations of physical abuse involving former residents of children's homes in the city.

The Glasgow Herald (p9) reports that members of the council's social work committee were given a report into the investigation during a private meeting.

Director of social work Les McEwan issued a statement after the meeting, saying: 'We are aware of the police investigation and have been co-operating fully with them.

'As the matters are now before the procurator fiscal, we have no further comment.'

Three men, including former CCETSW assistant director David Divine, have now been charged in the case.
