Edinburgh City Council has joined the band of authorities taking action over the concern that out of town retail stores are destroying city centres.

Edinburgh has plans to appoint a city centre manager, to protect its interests in the face of increasing competition from outlying developments, like the shopping centre at the Gyle, reports The Scotsman (p1).

Concern in Edinburgh has led the council to commission a report looking in particular at the future of the city's famous Princes Street.
