The first speed cameras to be installed in Edinburgh have been switched on as part of a scheme to reduce accidents and motorists jumping red lights, the Scotsman reports (p4).

A total of 26 cameras have been placed in sites in the west of the city, with warning signs to drivers telling of the operation.

David Begg, chairman of Lothian RC transportation committee said: 'These cameras are not spy cameras. The primary aim of the scheme is to deter speeding and red light running', the paper reports.
