The Edinburgh-based property group Miller is to push to win private finance initiative and local authority work, following a strategic review.

Scotland on Sunday (Business, p3) reported that Miller is prepared to put resources into speculative purchases to try to benefit from local authority development programmes.

It is creating a new ventures division with the specific brief to adopt a proactive approach towards winning public sector work and developing joint ventures with other private sector operators.

Miller's new ventures division will be instructed to take risks in order to steal a march on competitors to land key contracts. The company has already entered into an office project with Edinburgh City Council.

It has also enjoyed success in partnerships with councils in Wigan and Barnsley, and is anxious now to roll the blueprint across the country.
