The department of education is providing£60,000 to a dozen schools to set up innovative homework projects, BBC Radio Four's Today programme reported this morning.

A survey, to be published by the DfE today, has found schools which set more homework achieve better results.

Secondary schools were found to have widely different homework policies, setting from two to 10 hours per week, Today reported.
