The Department for Education is set to get a 7% rise in spending next year according to a document leaked to the press this morning, the Evening Standard reports.

The paper says that the news that schools and colleges have won an extra £670 million next year was 'triumphantly announced' by the Department in a press release issued in error this morning.

Much of the cash is said to be going towards new school buildings with priority for self governing schools which have opted out of local authority control.
