Islington LBC has drawn up plans to radically improve its schools and get them off the bottom of the league table, the Highbury & Islington Express reprots (p3).

It has set 300 targets in eight priority areas and stresses the need to improve leadership, management and self-review of schools, as well as teaching and learning quality, literacy, numeracy and pupil motivation.

Teachers who fail to come up to scratch will be sacked.

Islington's GCSE results were the worst in London and third bottom on the national league tables this year. Targets have been set to raise results to just under the national average in three years' time.
