A survey of Britain's largest companies has revealed that eight out of ten workers who retired last year did so before their due date.

The Daily Telegraph (p5) reports that the survey by Incomes Data Services revealed that 70% quit before they were 60 and in several firms the majority of employees retired at 54 or younger.

Helen Sudell, editor of the IDS pensions service, said: 'People with occupational pensions are increasingly finding themselves able to afford to retire early - and who can blame them?'
