Birmingham City Council deputy leader John Hemming (Lib Dem) went to the High Court last week to challenge the validity of the general election.

He argued for a judicial review, claiming the lack of safeguards against fraudulent postal votes was a breach of human rights.

But the court rejected a review as 'premature', pending actual accusations of fraud.
