Former Gateshead MBC chief executive Leslie Elton, who received the LGC lifetime achievement award this year, was awarded the Knights Bachelor.

Liverpool City Council chief executive David Henshaw was also knighted. His council received the most improved council award at the LGC awards.

Commission for Social Care Inspection chair Denise Platt was awarded a DBE.

CBE recipients included Improvement & Development Agency chair Colin Barrow (Con); Ted Cantle, chair of the Home Office community cohesion independent review team; former chair of the Corporation of London's policy and resources committee Michael Cassidy; former Sunderland City Council chief executive Colin Sinclair, and Hampshire CC county education officer Andrew Seber. OBEs included Oadby & Wigston BC chief executive Ruth Hyde and Luton BC chief executive Darra Singh.
