Employees' rights of access to staff employment records are to be extended from computerised records to manual records under a new EU directive, The Scotsman reports in a recruitment feature (Appointments p14).

Member states have until 24 October 1998 to comply with the directive. The aim of the directive is to allow the employee access to their manual file to check if information is accurate, especially if information is found to be prejudiced.
