The aim is to encourage companies from a variety of sectors to provide their customers with a seamless energy service. As the domestic energy market becomes deregulated, it is likely that lower fuel prices will force the energy suppliers to offer a range of added-value services to win new customers. Currently there are very few companies offering these services relating to energy saving measures.
The Energy Saving Trust is promoting the concept of the Energy Services Companies (ESCOs) to test the viability of offering such a service. The Energy Services initiative uses financial incentives and government backing to encourage companies and organisations to develop innovative and financially sustainable projects.
Over the past two years, the Energy Saving Trust has been developing and supporting a variety of pilot schemes initiated by local authorities, energy utilities and others. Now a wide variety of companies and organisations have been invited to apply for funding, including local authorities, energy suppliers, retailers, banks, utilities and housing associations.
