Planning enforcement officers have formed a mutual support organisation to help them in dealing with the 'difficult situations, hurt feelings and belligerent people' involved in disputes.

The National Association for Planning Enforcement has been formed by the Royal Town Planning Institute and is chaired by Tony Russell, an enforcement officer at the Exmoor National Park Authority.

Mr Russell said: 'Enforcement teams work at the sharp end of planning, ensuring that the consequences of decisions made as a result of planning applications being refused, or where applications haven't been made in the first place, are carried through on the ground.'
