The Civil Engineering Contractors Association is calling on the government to end the chaos in transport planning by creating a single transport policy for the UK and a new Strategic Transport Authority for all forms of travel, reports Contract Journal (p2).

The association's transport policy 2000 says the new Strategic Transport Authority should cover the entire UK to speed up progress towards an integrated transport system.

The CECA document also calls for government to make a significant increase in transport investment and to get a better balance between roads and alternative methods, and maintenance and new build.
