English Partnerships chief executive David Taylor, has announced the results of a recent scoping study on the Speke-Garston area of Merseyside.

The study was undertaken to assess the potential for redeveloping a number of key derelict and disused sites totalling over 500 acres, including Garston Waterside, Northern Airfield, Bryant and May, Speke Industrial Estate, Edwards Lane and Triumph Motors.

The study highlighted Speke-Garston's ability to attract new investment and employment to strengthen the existing list of companies currently located in the area.

Emerging plans for the area suggest the potential for establishing an industrial and business park which, over the next 10-15 years, could comprise over 3 million sq. ft. of space.

English Partnerships have joined with Liverpool City Council and commissioned consultants to prepare business plans for a joint venture company to focus on achieving a portfolio of ready-to-use development sites for the area.

Both bodies will also will seek support from the European Regional Development Fund to give formal commitments to the project.
