Equal pay row set for court

  • Comment
A home help and her union are taking legal action against local government’s most notorious no-win-no-fee lawyer in a row over equal pay compensation.

Edinburgh City Council worker Jacqueline Quinn is being backed by Unison in her attempt to stop Newcastle-based Stefan Cross pursuing her for costs and 10% of her future compensation after she changed solicitors.

Syd Smith , partner with union solicitors Thompsons , said he believed Mr Cross’ practices were wrong in Scottish law and that the case could have “implications” for other workers.

Mr Cross said potential new clients were made aware of their obligations and he did not believe that the case would be the vanguard of a class action.
