Essex CC is fighting a compensation claim from a foster family with whom the council placed a teenage sex abuser, reports The Guardian (p5).

Parents say if they had known the 15 year old boy had a history of abuse they would not have agreed to have him in their home and put their children at risk.

The council will argue in the high court today that court rulings giving social workers immunity from negligence actions mean the council cannot be held liable.

However, the family's counsel will argue the case is different to previous ones struck out on public policy grounds.
