Cuts of more than£22m to Essex CC's budget are set to be confirmed today with education and social services bearing the brunt, reports BBC Essex.

The government's settlement originally called for savings of£50m by the county council, but by drawing from reserve funds the figures councillors have to confirm has been reduced to about£22m.

All areas will be affected, from highways and transportation and community safety to heritage and culture and libraries.

The biggest cut will be made in education; more than£12m. Councillors are also being asked to confirm savings of over£3m in social services.
