The European Commission is demanding Denbighshire CC repays part of a grant after a visit by a team of inspectors.

An EC 'control mission' visited the council in June to inspect files on a£1.25 million European regional development fund grant (LGC, 3 July). The commission is now demanding back£768,000.

A delegation from Denbighshire met Welsh Office ministers last week to seek assistance. The remaining£356,000 will have to be refunded if the council fails to meet output commitments, originally promised by the former Rhuddlan BC, by December 1999.
