Environment secretary John Gummer has decided not to call in a planning application for what will be Europe's biggest film and television studios so leaving the way open for Three Rivers DC and Watford BC to approve the plans, reports BBC Three Counties.
Both local authorities are strongly in favour of the scheme at Leavesden, on the 200 acre site of a former Rolls Royce factory.
Developers, Third Millenium Studios, have put forward ambitious proposals which would transform the present derelict area. Mr Gummer has decided not to hold a public inquiry and the two councils say only the legal formalities remain to be completed.
In addition to the studios, the project includes housing and a cinema theme park. Two thousand permanent jobs - from carpenters to special effects experts - will be created and another 1,000 part-time jobs, plus untold spin-off benefits for the local economy.
