Former home secretary Kenneth Baker has been ordered to replace the security gates at his country retreat by Lewes DC.

The Times (p10) reports that the council's planning committee said that his white picket gates were out of keeping with his grade two listed home in Iford.

Mr Baker told the paper: 'When I found that planning approval had not been obtained, I insisted on applying.

'We will replace the gate with one that the council approves.'
