The management hierarchy of the new North Lanarkshire authority had been correctly forecast two weeks before interviews were held, the former provost of Cumbernauld and Kilsyth DC said yesterday.

The Herald reports (p3) that Gordon Murray told the inquiry into staff appointments to North Lanarkshire said that an official on his council had retired early 'in disgust' rather than try to secure a job on the new authority.

The SNP group leader on North Lanarkshire told the third day of the inquiry that all appointments made had been fair, The Herald reports.
