Devon CC has shortlisted 13 potential buyers for its second attempt to sell Exeter International Airport.

The council tried to sell 75% of its shares in 2004, but the Competition Commission blocked the move because it objected to the intended buyer.

This time Devon is to sell all but a 'golden' share, retained to protect the council's interest. It said a sale was necessary to attract the investment the airport needs.

Leader Brian Greenslade (Lib Dem) said: 'We have a duty on behalf of the tax-payers to secure the best value for this major public asset.

'Best value is more than just money - it is also importantly about what's best for the airport, the local economy and our customers.'
