Councillors will be able to claim expenses if they skateboard to meetings under new rules coming into effect next month.

They will also be able to claim travel allowances for push scooters and in-line skates as well as cycling under the regulations, from 1 May.

The guidance from the ODPM will enable councillors who use 'non motorised' forms of transport to recoup the cost of wear and tear.

The change is part of efforts to decentralise power to councils, scrapping a government cap on expenses.
