Nearly 3,000 new housing association homes were completed in Wales in 1993, compared with 172 for local authorities, Welsh under-secretary Gwilym Jones revealed in a written answer (5 July, col170).

The 1993 figure of 2,849 for new housing association homes is up on the 1989 total of 1,663, when as many as 566 new local authority houses were built.

This last figure shows that last year fewer than one-third the number of 1989 local authority new homes were built.

The figures exclude acquisitions, rehabilitation and hostel spaces.
