A Labour member of Fife Council has been charged with fraud after an investigation into his expenses claims.

The Scotsman (12 Dec, p6) reported that Alex Sharp, the council's former spokesman on planning, will be 'vigorously defending' himself, according to a council spokesman.

An internal investigation was launched in August after irregularities were alleged during an internal audit of councillors' expenses. The police were notified after the audit report was completed.

A police spokesman confirmed that a 65-year-old man had been charged in connection with council expenses.
