The world's first dedicated anti-Japanese knotweed officer has been taking the fight against the virulent weed to the whole of Wales, according to the Western Mail (p5).

Sean Hathaway was appointed by Swansea City and County Council last year as the city is one of the most badly affected in the UK by the plant-strangling weed.

He has been holding a series of seminars to help other Welsh authorities fight it effectively.

Mr Hathaway said it would take at least 30 years to bring Japanese knotweed under control in Swansea using current treatment methods.
