A Labour councillor has taken the fight to save his town to Brussels, reports the East Anglian Daily Times (p11).

He said his aim was to raise the deepening crisis in Harwich, where hundreds of people have lost their jobs in recent years.

His main concern is what he calls the 'breakdown of the transport infrastrucuture' as importers and exporters stop using the port, the paper reports.

He hopes that the issue willl be taken up with European transport commissioner Neil Kinnock.
