Telford & Wrekin BC has appointed support services group Interserve as preferred bidder for its£70m Hadley Learning Community and Jigsaw Project.

Under the terms of the private finance initiative deal, the company will design, build and maintain facilities for 25 years, after which they will revert to the council.

Interserve said it had a portfolio of eight education PFI projects, covering 37 schools.

The Hadley Learning Community will include a new 1,200-place secondary school, a relocated special-needs school and a new 420-place primary school.

Planned community facilities include childcare, health services for young children, a 150-seat theatre, swimming pool and sports pitches.

The Jigsaw scheme will provide integrated education, social and healthcare for 30 children with emotional and behavioural difficulties, who are currently placed out of the area.
