Oxfordshire CC has suspended three members of staff in the finance section of its social and health care directorate pending the outcome of an investigation triggered as part of the council's drive to strengthen its financial systems.

Social and health care director Charles Waddicor said: 'The team that has been examining financial systems has identified a range of issues that require further investigation.

'It is vital that no stone is left unturned in tightening the council's accounting procedures. I would emphasise that we have found no evidence of fraud. All the relevant regulatory bodies are being informed.

'For legal reasons it is not possible to comment further at this stage.'
