North Wales Fire Authority has concluded that control rooms for Wales's three fire brigades should not be merged, reports The Western Mail (p9).

The authority will now seek a meeting with its counterparts in south Wales and mid and West Wales to discuss retention of separate control rooms.

Concerns were raised that the northern force's bilingual services could be eroded if its control centre were merged with those of fire brigades in areas where Welsh is less widely spoken.
