Full details of the Local Government Information Unit's 1997 annual

conference are now available from the Unit.

The conference, to be held at Hove Town Hall from 27-29 June, will be opened

by Rodney Bickerstaffe, general secretary of Unison. A new feature for the

LGIU conference will be a Question Time session on Saturday afternoon.

Panellists for this will included Professor Gerry Stoker of Strathclyde

University and Steve Richards, political editor of The New Statesman.

The conference will be the first major local government conference following

the general election and its theme is Post election strategies for local

government.

Topics covered by the workshops include community safety, housing,

anti-poverty, regional government, finance, community empowerment and

regeneration.
