Worcester CC leader Doug Wicksteed has warned that the cost of repairing damage caused by last week's floods could wipe out the authority's cash reserves.

The Birmingham Post (p4) reports that his warning came as council leaders prepared to consider applying for government aid.

Mr Wicksteed said: 'We simply won't know what the final bill will be until the whole situation has been assessed.

'There is a fear that we could potentially end up with a figure which is more than our reserves. However insurance claims are a complex area and we would want to know what we are liable for.'
