The Association of British Insurers estimates the floods that have left much of Wales and the Midlands underwater have caused damage in the region of£80m, reports the Financial Times (p8).

Red flood warnings were still in force on several rivers, including the Wye and Severn and the Environment Agency said the situation would remain critical over the weekend.
