The floods in parts of England could lead to council insurance claims of up to£8 million, according to local government's biggest insurer.

Zurich Municipal has already confirmed£3m of claims from councils.

Marketing manager David Forster said that, based on previous experience, this was likely to rise to between£5m and£8m.

Mr Forster said claims were concentrated in the rural West Midlands and East Anglia.
