Major work in west London could bring chaos to a quarter of all traffic going in and out of the capital - for ten years.

The Evening Standard (p27) reports that £30m worth of repairs to crossbeams may be required on the 30-year-old Chiswick flyover, one of Britain's busiest roads.

Closure and diversion could result on the strategic radial M4 and A4, affecting the North and South Circular roads, up tot he A40, down towards the M3, and seeping into local roads over 30 square miles.
