The Western Mail (p5) reports that Shaun Stringer, who resigned as leader of the council when the inquiries began earlier this year, accused the Labour party hierarchy of mounting a 'witch-hunt' against him to prevent him from having any chance of standing for next May's council or Welsh assembly elections.
Stressing his innocence of any wrongdoing, the former council leader said: 'Every council leader in the country will be in trouble if I am charged with criminal offences.' He believes there are personal and political motives behind the accusations.
