The former leader of Hartlepool BC, Bryan Hanson, is stepping down as a councillor after 35 years in politics, reported The Northern Echo (24 Oct, p5).

Mr Hanson became leader in 1991 and is proud to have been a guiding influence in the changing dockland and town centre, during that time. He was also on the board of Teeside Development Corporation, and was once leader of Cleveland CC.

He now intends to devote more of his time to his chairmanship of Hartlepool and East Durham NHS Health Trust.
