Former minister, Michael Fallon, calls for private sector investment in state schools to relieve 'fossilised' funding policies, in the Yorkshire Post (August 31, p7).

Partnership with other educational institutions could release vital additional resources, said Mr Fallon. He proposed joint ventures, including building and running by the private sector of facilities such as language laboratories.

Mr Fallon also suggested a relaxation of government rules on borrowing and leasing.

His remarks were based on a Social Market Foundation pamphlet called 'Brighton Schools'.
