Scottish secretary Michael Forsyth has announced that he has approved plans to replace the gym and carry out associated refurbishments at Dunblane primary school.

Mr Forsyth also confirmed that the Government would meet the full cost of the work.

Mr Forsyth said: 'I am delighted to approve these plans and am confident that the refurbishment will ensure a school campus of the highest quality.

'I am sure all associated with the school will join me in looking forward eagerly to the completion of the work as soon as possible.

'The prime minister and I made clear in March that the Government would meet the full costs of the replacement and in giving Stirling Council approval of the plans I have confirmed this commitment.'
