Nearly 40 organisations have expressed interest in buying council-owned 3C Waste.

Cheshire CC and Halton and Warrington BCs put the multi-million pound waste disposal company up for sale in April.

Estimates of the asking price ranged from£80 million to£120m (LGC, 24 April).

The deadline for indicative bids from firms interested in 3C Waste passed last week. Bidders range from venture capitalists to significant players in the waste management market.

Former Cheshire CC treasurer John Whiteoak, who is acting as shareholder representative during the sale, declined to detail the bids but said: 'The level of interest has been encouraging.'

A panel of members from the three councils is expected to select a shortlist of preferred bidders by the middle of this month.
