Fox hunting was banned on council owned land in Leicestershire yesterday reports the Guardian (p2).

A 42-33 resolution was passed by the county council outlawing hunting on 10,000 acres of England's prime field sporting land.

The resolution was proposed by the Labour group leader, Martin Ryan, and put to a free vote. It stated that the council should encourage drag hunting which does not involve killing animals.
