The Birmingham Post (p5) reports on the warning that came from Friend of the Earth today that 300 sites of special scientific interest are being ruined by 'greedy builders and farmers'. The Rive Wye is particularly at threat from housing developers; FoE claims plans to build 166 homes could destroy the river's environment.

A spokesman from South Herefordshire DC is quoted: 'The proposals for this housing will soon be passed after an extensive study found there would be no impact on the River Wye. We have received no objections from Herefordshire Wildlife Trust and English Nature, which governs this site, did not oppose the proposals.'
